Background information about 'Stand In Your Light'

"Stand in Your Light" arrives like a slow-burning storm front, and Venus Principle waste no time proving that this British-Swedish collective is far more than a supergroup footnote. Formed in autumn 2019 by musicians who walked away from Crippled Black Phoenix, the band channels that restless, darkly melodic art rock instinct into something entirely their own. Every note on this debut drips with the bittersweet honeycomb of solemn melody, and you can hear the hard-earned maturity of veterans who have been around the block more than once. Pain and darkness soak through each track, yet the record never collapses into despair — there is tenderness here, flickers of hope, warmth cutting through the gloom.

Classic rock sits at the heart of the album, but Venus Principle keep folding in ingredients that make it impossible to pin down. The lineup draws on active and former members of At the Gates, Ison, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster and Louise Lemón, and that pedigree shows in the sheer confidence of the songwriting. Tracks like the brooding opener and the sweeping closer build and release with real patience, letting the atmosphere breathe before the guitars come crashing in. For anyone still nursing the wound left by Anathema's split, this record offers genuine balm — a fully-fledged masterpiece that somehow doubles as a debut. It is bound to delight devotees of both rock and metal, and it earns every second of its runtime.
