Background information about 'Stand in Your Light'

There is a moment on "Stand in Your Light" where the guitars stop circling and everything simply breathes — and that is exactly where Venus Principle sink their hooks in. This British-Swedish collective was born in autumn 2019, when several members walked away from Crippled Black Phoenix still hopelessly in love with dark, melodic art rock and psychedelic music. Rather than sit at home nursing old wounds, they pulled in friends and former allies from At the Gates, Ison, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster and Louise Lemón, and the result is a debut that sounds like a veteran band's third or fourth record.

Classic rock sits at the core here, but it is a restless, heavy-hearted kind of classic rock. Pain and darkness seep through every track, and out of that gloom grows a terrible beauty that struts around in triumphant glory. Yet shadow cannot exist without light, and Venus Principle know it — they carve out tender, hopeful passages that feel like sunlight through a cracked window. That interplay is the beating heart of the album, and it is also where the metal spirit of some of the players quietly reveals itself, offering balm for anyone still grieving the split of Anathema.

Eleven tracks of solemn, bittersweet melody, sung like hymns for the burdened and the broken, delivered with the profound maturity of hard-earned experience. For a first record, that is a genuinely rare thing.
