Background information about 'Sceptre'
There is something gloriously unapologetic about the way Vision Master attack a riff. "Sceptre" arrives like a war banner unfurled on a windy ridge, all twin-guitar gallop, leather-bound grit and choruses built to be shouted back by a few hundred raised fists in a sweaty club. This is heavy metal that remembers where it came from — the New Wave of British Heavy Metal's swagger, the doom-tinged storytelling of the early eighties, the kind of songwriting that treats a hook as a sacred duty rather than an afterthought. Nothing here feels retro for retro's sake; it feels like a band who genuinely believe in the power of the form.
What lifts the record above mere pastiche is the craft. The rhythm section locks in tight and lets the guitars breathe, so when a lead breaks loose it lands with real weight instead of just showing off. The vocals carry that rough-edged, storytelling conviction that makes a line stick in your head for days, and the arrangements know exactly when to pull back and when to slam the pedal down. It is a record that rewards repeat listens — the details, the little harmonic turns, the drum fills that arrive exactly where you want them.
