Background information about 'The Star'
Wormwood returns with "The Star", a mesmerizing journey through the darkest corners of atmospheric black metal that feels like witnessing a cosmic apocalypse unfold in real-time. This Swedish collective has crafted something truly special here – seven tracks that weave together haunting melodies with crushing brutality, creating an experience that's both devastatingly heavy and surprisingly beautiful. The album opens with "Stjärnfall" (Starfall), immediately establishing the band's mastery of creating vast, cinematic soundscapes that feel like they're pulled straight from the void between stars.
What makes "The Star" absolutely captivating is how Wormwood balances their ferocious black metal foundation with moments of genuine emotional depth. Tracks like "A Distant Glow" and "Liminal" showcase the band's ability to shift from bone-chilling tremolo picking to passages of almost ethereal beauty, while "Galactic Blood" delivers the kind of relentless intensity that'll leave you breathless. The production perfectly captures the band's vision – raw enough to maintain that essential black metal edge, yet clear enough to let every haunting detail shine through. This is atmospheric black metal at its absolute finest, proving that Wormwood belongs among the genre's most compelling voices.
