Background information about 'Heart Of Darkness'
There is something gloriously unapologetic about Zombeast. The band name alone tells you exactly which door you are walking through, and "Heart Of Darkness" kicks it open with a grin full of broken teeth. This is horror-drenched hard rock built on greasy riffs, pounding drums and choruses that stick to your ribs like grave dirt. "Devil's Whore" and "Red Ripper" come out swinging first, all swagger and sleaze, before "Call Of The Wild" drags you deeper into the fog. The production keeps things raw and mean, letting the guitars snarl instead of shine, and that is precisely the point.
What makes this record tick is the balance between camp and genuine menace. "Torso" and "The Cycle" lurch along like something crawling out of a swamp, while the title track slows the pulse and lets the atmosphere do the heavy lifting. "Cold Embrace" and "The Witching Bell" lean hard into gothic dread, and by the time "Night Demon" and "Dark Path" close the coffin lid, you have been thoroughly entertained. It is the kind of album that knows exactly what it is and has a blast being it, and honestly, that confidence is contagious. Turn it up loud, preferably after midnight.
