Background information about 'Black Metal'
Witchcraft has never been a band to follow trends, and Black Metal proves that once again. The Swedish rockers deliver an album that is anything but what its title might suggest — there's no blast beats or corpse paint here. Instead, this is a warm, fuzzy, and deeply soulful record that leans heavily into 70s hard rock, folk-infused melodies, and the kind of dusty, analog production that feels like a forgotten gem from a bygone era.
The album kicks off with "Elegantly Expressed Depression", a track that sets the tone with its hypnotic groove and Magnus Pelander's unmistakable, melancholic vocals. From there, the journey takes you through the tender folk balladry of "A Boy And A Girl", the raw, blues-soaked riffing of "Sad People", and the sprawling, psychedelic closer "Take Him Away". Every track breathes and lives in its own space, never rushing, always feeling perfectly placed. There's an organic warmth here that modern productions often lack — this is music to get lost in.
