From the sweltering depths of Lafayette, Louisiana, Capra erupt with a debut that feels less like an album and more like a clenched fist connecting with your sternum. In Transmission is 28 minutes of absolutely relentless metallic hardcore that grabs you by the throat from the opening feedback screech of "[Exordium]" and doesn't let go until the final chaotic notes of "Samuraiah Carey" fade into oblivion.

What makes this record so goddamn compelling is the ferocious duality at its core. Guitarist and vocalist Crow Lotus delivers a performance that oscillates between searing, throat-shredding screams and a commanding, almost predatory clean delivery that cuts through the mix like a razor. The riff work from Tyler Harper is nothing short of vicious — think the angular, off-kilter attack of early Every Time I Die colliding head-on with the raw, punk-infused fury of Trap Them. Tracks like "The Locust Preacher" and "Medusa" are built on riffs that twist and contort, while the rhythm section of Jeremy Randazzo and Ben Paramore holds everything together with the precision of a well-oiled, deeply pissed-off machine. There's a Southern Gothic undercurrent here too — not in some hokey, cliché way, but in the oppressive humidity and barely-contained violence that seems to seep through every track.

The production, handled by Jai Benoit, is refreshingly raw without ever sounding amateurish. Every snare hit lands like a gunshot, the bass rumbles with a tactile physicality, and the guitars maintain that perfect balance between clarity and chaos. "Torture Ship" is a particular standout — a two-minute bludgeoning that somehow finds room for one of the catchiest, most mosh-ready breakdowns you'll hear this year. And then there's "Paper Tongues", which showcases the band's ability to weave genuine melody into their assault without sacrificing an ounce of aggression. This is the sound of a band that has absolutely no interest in playing it safe, and the result is one of the most exciting metallic hardcore debuts in recent memory.
