In addition to its deep and thought-provoking lyrics, the band's atmospheric and progressive brand of black metal encapsulates the spectrum of human emotions with its larger-than-life romantic compositions and soulful ambience, creating an offering that is just as powerful and beautiful as it is vulnerable and devastating.Although that sounds like one of the tallest orders outside of the classical (read: orchestral/choral) world, South African band Constellatia bring that front and center on their second album, Magisterial Romance.Across the album's four tracks, Constellatia unfurl enlightening realms of joy, pure ecstasy, bitter romance and, in mere moments swallow the smiles in an immeasurable abyss of despair; all through masterful employment of guitar, voice and keys.Magisterial Romance is projected to convey an array of emotions from the joyous and the pained and is a timely reminder of how one can veer between such stark emotions so quickly. It is perhaps cliche to state that an album requires your undivided attention to fully grasp but that is truly the case with Magisterial Romance as it is able to subtly move through tones.Take, for instance, the first song, "Palace," when at about 6:30 a triumphant solo bursts forth from the shimmery blackened and post metal section–the trem-picked section in the middle of the solo stood out as particularly spectacular and as a relatively uncommon technique utilization.The album features guest appearances from Honeymoan members Alison Rachel and Skye MacInnes on the track "Adorn".
