There are records that simply hit you, and then there are records that slowly, relentlessly drag you down into the swamp and refuse to let go. Crowbar's "Time Heals Nothing" belongs firmly to the latter category. Released in the mid-nineties at the absolute peak of the New Orleans sludge scene, this is Kirk Windstein and company at their most crushing, most wounded, and most devastatingly heavy.

From the very first notes of "The Only Factor," you know exactly where this is heading: riffs the size of collapsing buildings, a rhythm section that lumbers forward with the inevitability of a slow-moving freight train, and that unmistakable voice, raw, aching, and utterly human. This is doom metal stripped of all pretense, built on sheer weight and emotional honesty. Tracks like "No More Can We Crawl" and the title cut are pure, unfiltered misery delivered with a groove that somehow makes you want to bang your head through the floor. The production is thick and warm, every note hanging in the air like humidity before a storm.
