The opener "A Prayer for Union" owes a debt to Swans with its underlying buzzing churn and creepy voiceover, building tension until the real avalanche of despair descends with "Dirt Black Chalice" - genuinely devastating stuff.These are unequivocally ten of the most harrowing minutes of metal you'll hear, an epic funeral march with spidery black metal motifs powered by untamed vocals that suggest some seriously dark times.At work here is deceptively technical craft, and like many modern monolithic doomy drone bands, Culted have mastered utilizing noise as an art form, with steady metal tempos occupying only a small portion of the release.
