When Nicke Andersson — the man behind the kit and riffs of the legendary Nihilist and Entombed — decides to get back to his filthy roots, you know something rotten is brewing. Death Breath is exactly that: a putrid, rotting corpse of old-school death metal dragged straight out of the Swedish crypt, reeking of the glory days when the HM-2 pedal ruled supreme and melody hadn't yet crept into the genre's bones.

Stinking Up the Night is a relentless exercise in sonic decay. From the opening chainsaw riff of Death Breath, you're thrown headfirst into a maelstrom of buzzsaw guitars, d-beat fury, and that unmistakable Stockholm buzz that made Sunlight Studio famous. Andersson handles both drums and guitar here, and the sheer primitive energy he brings is staggering — this isn't polite, polished death metal. This is the sound of a man possessed, channeling decades of extreme music experience into something that feels dangerously alive precisely because it sounds so dead. Tracks like Heading for Decapitation and Dragged Through the Mud hit with the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the skull, while Coffins of the Unembalmed Dead crawls at a putrid, doom-laden pace that'll make your skin peel.

But here's the kicker: beneath all the grime and gore, the songwriting is razor-sharp. Reduced to Ashes and Christ All Fucking Mighty are instant death metal anthems, packed with riffs that burrow into your brain like maggots into a fresh corpse. And then there's Cthulhu Fhtagn! — a Lovecraftian closer that proves these guys know exactly how to balance horror with a wicked sense of humor.
