Background information about 'Magick Rites'
"Magick Rites" is where the Dopelord legend first took shape, and hearing it again is like striking a match in a dark room. The Polish four-piece crawled out of the haze in 2010, and by 2012 they had already nailed the formula that would make them one of the most beloved names in the stoner doom underground: riffs thick enough to lean on, grooves that swing like a rusty gate, and a wink of black humour running underneath all that fuzz. From the very first rip, the record rises like a cloud of smoke and refuses to settle.
"Lucifer's Son" is the moment everyone remembers, a chorus so seductive that crowds have been chanting it for over a decade as a pledge of allegiance, and yes, "I gave you my soul" still lands like a hammer. Elsewhere the band drags you through tar-thick sludge, lets the amps breathe on long instrumental passages, and then hits the gas exactly when you least expect it. It is heavy, it is hypnotic, and it is enormous fun. Back in print on Season of Mist, this is the first communion all over again, and it sounds better than ever.
