Background information about 'Ruun'
Enslaved delivers another mind-bending journey through Norse mythology and progressive soundscapes with "Ruun", an album that perfectly showcases why these Norwegian masters remain at the forefront of extreme metal evolution. The record seamlessly weaves together their signature Viking metal foundations with increasingly sophisticated progressive elements, creating an atmosphere that's both brutally heavy and intellectually stimulating. Tracks like "Entroper" and "Path to Vanir" demonstrate the band's ability to craft epic compositions that feel like ancient sagas told through crushing riffs and ethereal melodies.
What makes "Ruun" particularly compelling is how Enslaved manages to balance their black metal roots with clean vocals and intricate instrumental passages that wouldn't feel out of place on a prog rock masterpiece. The title track serves as the album's centerpiece, building from haunting acoustic passages to thunderous climaxes that showcase both Grutle Kjellson's fierce growls and Herbrand Larsen's soaring clean vocals. Songs like "Fusion Of Sense and Earth" and "Heir To The Cosmic Seed" explore themes of spiritual transformation and cosmic consciousness while maintaining the band's trademark intensity.
