Background information about 'Radical'

Radical is the sound of a band refusing to go quietly, and thank whatever gods of noise are listening for that. Every Time I Die had already spent two decades sharpening their weird, wonderful blend of Southern-fried hardcore, jagged punk and bar-band swagger, but here they sound genuinely unhinged in the best possible way. "Dark Distance" opens like a bar fight spilling into the street, all lurching riffs and Keith Buckley's trademark sneer, and from there the record never lets you catch your breath. "Planet Shit" is a glorious, ugly stomp, "Post-Boredom" swings with a rock 'n' roll looseness that most heavy bands would kill for, and "A Colossal Wreck" detonates in under three minutes flat.

What makes Radical so thrilling is how much ground it covers without ever losing its identity. There's the bruised, almost tender ache of "Thing With Feathers," the wiry, frantic math-punk of "Hostile Architecture," the sleazy strut of "The Whip," and then "We Go Together" closes the whole thing out with five minutes of swaggering, anthemic release. The guitars of Jordan Buckley and Andy Williams are a two-headed beast, trading razor-wire leads and filthy grooves, while the rhythm section locks everything into a sweaty, relentless pulse. It's loud, it's smart, it's funny in places and genuinely furious in others, and it never once feels like a band going through the motions.
