Austrian death metal gets a serious shot in the arm with Fessus and their crushing debut full-length "Subcutaneous Tomb"! This Vienna-based quartet, spearheaded by Australian transplant Brenton, delivers six tracks of absolutely putrid, groove-laden death metal that harkens back to the glory days when Austria ruled the underground. Following their promising 2023 demo "Pilgrims of Morbidity", these maniacs have crafted something truly special – death metal that prioritizes memorable songwriting and bone-crushing atmosphere over mindless technicality.

What sets "Subcutaneous Tomb" apart is its masterful restraint. While other bands blast away at hyperspeed, Fessus operates in mid-tempo territory with perfectly placed bursts of aggression that hit like sledgehammers. Brenton's vocals are absolutely unhinged – channeling the deranged spirit of Necrophagia's Killjoy while spewing forth bile and brimstone with versatile madness. The production by Thomas Taube at Five Lakes Studio captures every rotten nuance, creating a dense, macabre atmosphere that oozes morbidity from every pore. This is death metal for purists who worship at the altar of authentic brutality.
