Background information about 'Iihtallan'

Some debuts arrive quietly. Festerday's "iihtallan" is not one of them. Following the "Cadaveric Virginity" EP, this Finnish crew drags old school death metal kicking and screaming into contact with black metal's frost and punk's snotty disrespect, and the collision is glorious. Nothing here sits still long enough to be comfortable. Riffs lurch, then sprint. The low end rumbles like a collapsing tunnel. Vocals come at you like a warning you ignored. It is ugly in the best possible way, the sound of a band who clearly studied the classics and then decided the rulebook was optional.

What makes "iihtallan" stick is the refusal to pick a lane. There are moments of pure, filthy death metal groove that will have you nodding along before a blastbeat shoves you sideways. Then a punk-inflected stomp arrives out of nowhere, all attitude and no apology. The production keeps the grit intact without burying the detail, so the interplay between the guitars and the rhythm section stays legible even at full throttle. It is a record that rewards volume and repeat listens, and it announces a band with a genuinely individual voice rather than a tribute act.
