Let's get one thing straight right from the start: Hell Militia don't give a single fuck about your comfort zone. This French black metal collective, assembled from the putrid underbelly of the country's extreme scene, dropped Canonisation Of The Foul Spirit back in 2005 as their debut full-length, and it still hits like a sledgehammer to the face. Featuring members who've also defiled records by MÜTIILATION, ARKHON INFAUSTUS, and TEMPLE OF BAAL, these guys came out of the gate with a fully-formed vision of blasphemous, riff-driven chaos.

The album is structured as 10 twisted "Psalms," and let me tell you — this isn't some lo-fi bedroom project. The production hits that sweet spot: raw enough to keep its teeth, clean enough that every riff cuts through like broken glass. Speaking of riffs, they're absolutely filthy, drawing from the same well as the members' other projects but with a distinct identity. And then there's Meyhnach from MÜTIILATION behind the mic, spewing his trademark demented vocals over tracks like "Burning Human Pigs," "Prophecy from the Mutilated Children," and the gloriously titled "Black Fucking Cancer." His unhinged delivery alone makes this album worth the price of admission. This is hateful, spiteful, beautifully ugly black metal from a time when the French scene was absolutely on fire.
