When Hell Militia emerged from the French underground in 2005 with Canonisation Of The Foul Spirit, they didn't just release a debut album - they detonated a sonic bomb. This is black metal at its most vile, most contemptuous, and most gloriously unhinged. The band, featuring members of MÜTIILATION, ARKHON INFAUSTUS and TEMPLE OF BAAL, brought together a coven of the most depraved individuals the French scene had to offer, and the result is nothing short of devastating.

The album's 10 tracks, referred to as "Psalms," hit with a production that's professional enough to let every instrument breathe but raw enough to keep that filthy edge intact. And then there's Meyhnach from MÜTIILATION behind the mic - his demented vocal delivery on tracks like "Burning Human Pigs", "Prophecy from the Mutilated Children" and "Black Fucking Cancer" is absolutely unhinged. Hearing him spew his blasphemous gospel in that unmistakable, maddened cadence is the album's undeniable highlight. The riffs are razor-sharp, the songwriting betrays the experience of seasoned veterans, and the whole thing reeks of sulphur and spite. This is French black metal at its most uncompromising - a true cult classic that still sounds as dangerous today as it did two decades ago.
