There are records that simply get under your skin, and Rotting Cosmic Grief by Heretical Sect is exactly that kind of beast. From the very first seconds, this New Mexico collective drags you into a swirling, dissonant void where black metal and death metal collide in the ugliest, most beautiful way imaginable. This is not background music, this is a slow-burning ritual that demands your full attention, and once it has you, it refuses to let go.
The four tracks here feel less like songs and more like movements of a single, rotting hymn. Visceral Divination opens the gate with a suffocating wall of tremolo-picked riffs and vocals that sound like they were recorded in the deepest catacomb. Plateau Of Stars then stretches out into something almost meditative in its bleakness, a drifting, cosmic desolation that builds and builds until it collapses under its own weight. On the flipside, Punish The Christ and Swar Wreathed Flames push the aggression even further, balancing raw, feral blasting with moments of eerie, almost psychedelic atmosphere. What makes Heretical Sect so compelling is the way they weave melody through the chaos without ever softening the blow. This is ugly, hallucinatory, and utterly hypnotic music for the end of everything.
