Background information about 'Legacy'
Five years in the making, "Legacy" represents a monumental leap forward for Ihlo, showcasing their evolution from promising newcomers to a confident powerhouse in the UK's modern progressive scene. Written collaboratively by Andy Robison, Phil Monro & Clark McMenemy through a blend of remote writing sessions and focused studio work, this ambitious second album captures the band's growth while maintaining the essence that made their 2019 debut "Union" such a standout release. The album was recorded in part at The Arch Studios in Southport, housed within a breathtaking 140-year-old restored church, where the stunning acoustics lend the drums an organic immediacy that permeates throughout the ten tracks.
"Legacy" presents a dynamic sonic journey that drifts seamlessly between shimmering ambient passages and tightly wound rhythmic propulsion, showcasing Ihlo's ability to craft music that is both ambitious without excess and richly melodic yet never predictable. Lyrically, the album casts a wary eye toward the near-future, exploring themes where technological advancement feels increasingly hollow, governed more by profit than genuine purpose. Where "Union" hinted at the band's influences, "Legacy" speaks confidently in their own distinctive voice, creating a sound that's uniquely theirs while addressing contemporary concerns about our digital age.
