Background information about 'Cruel Face Of War'
There are few things in death metal as reliably brutal as a new Jungle Rot record, and "Cruel Face Of War" is no exception. The Wisconsin death machine has been at this since the early '90s, and with every album they prove that old-school death metal doesn't need gimmicks — it just needs riffs, groove, and pure aggression. This time around, Jungle Rot delivers yet another pulverizing slab of war-themed death metal that hits like a tank shell to the chest. From the moment the first track kicks in, you're hit with that signature blend of crushing downtuned guitars, relentless drumming, and Dave Matrise's guttural roar that sounds as pissed off as ever.
The production on "Cruel Face Of War" is massive — thick, heavy, and perfectly balanced between raw energy and modern clarity. The band doesn't reinvent the wheel here, but why would they? This is death metal played with conviction, with songs built around monolithic grooves that make you want to bang your head until your neck gives out. Tracks like the title cut and "Savage Wrath" showcase the band's ability to shift between mid-paced stompers and faster, more chaotic passages without losing an ounce of momentum. If you're a fan of Bolt Thrower, Six Feet Under, or Obituary, this is right up your alley — pure, unadulterated death metal with a war theme that never feels forced.
