Background information about 'Dark Asylum'
Kamelot have always walked a fine line between symphonic grandeur and razor-sharp metal, and Dark Asylum sees them pushing that balance even further. This is a band that refuses to sit still, and the new record feels like a natural evolution rather than a retread of past glories. From the very first notes of Sanctorium, there's an unmistakable sense of purpose — the orchestral swells hit harder, the riffs cut deeper, and the vocal performances soar with that trademark Kamelot theatricality that fans have come to treasure.
Tracks like Ashen World and Godlike Alchemy showcase the band's uncanny ability to blend bombastic, cinematic arrangements with moments of genuine intimacy. One Last Masquerade is an instant highlight, dripping with the kind of melodic hooks that have made Kamelot a staple of the genre for decades. The darker undercurrents running through Dark Asylum give the album a compelling edge, with The Puppet King and Sanctum Requiem closing things out on a brooding, atmospheric note that lingers long after the final chord fades. This is symphonic metal at its most confident and captivating — a band firing on all cylinders and clearly enjoying every moment of it.
