KAMELOT · Dark Asylum | BLACK LP

Black vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

Background information about 'Dark Asylum'

Kamelot have always had a flair for the theatrical, and with Dark Asylum they take that drama to a whole new level. The symphonic metal veterans step through the gates of RavenHill Asylum, a towering Victorian institution where science, faith, and madness collide in the most unsettling of ways. Candlelight flickers through cold stone corridors, whispers creep along the arches, and behind every locked door waits a shard of truth. It is a concept record that pulls you in deep and refuses to let go, guiding its central figure through fractured identity and psychological descent toward something that might just be sanctuary.

The songwriting here is vintage Kamelot with a darker pulse. From the sweeping cinematic grandeur of Ashen World to the intimate, introspective pull of Sanctuary, the album balances orchestral weight with the kind of hooks that made bands like this legendary in the first place. Producer Sascha Paeth is back behind the board with Jacob Hansen on mix and mastering, and the guest list reads like a who's who of modern metal: Ignacia Fernandez of Decessus lends her voice to two tracks, Clementine Delauney of Visions Of Atlantis joins for a stunning duet on Sanctuary, and Eluveitie's Lea-Sophie Fischer adds haunting violin to Beneath the Moon (Tunglið). Add Tobias Sammet of Edguy and Avantasia fame on One Last Masquerade and you have a record bursting with star power that never overshadows the core vision.
