Background information about 'Revered by Death'
German metalpunk destroyers Karloff return with their second full-length assault, and "Revered by Death" proves they've mastered the art of controlled chaos. Following the crushing impact of "The Appearing", this latest offering digs deeper into the band's signature blend of ancient-days metalpunk fury and stifled violence that'll leave you gasping for air.
What sets "Revered by Death" apart is its deliberately murkier approach – think Carnivore's brutality meets the anthemic power of Best Wishes-era Cro-Mags, all wrapped in a lead-heavy stomp that hits like a sledgehammer to the skull. The tempos feel more reined in this time around, but don't mistake restraint for weakness. Karloff has crafted something genuinely menacing here, where the heaviness comes not from sheer volume but from the oppressive weight of their songwriting. The deathrock-influenced instrumental "On Weathered Altar" stands as a haunting testament to their evolving sound, hinting at post-punk influences that could bloom into something truly special.
