The Kreator tracks on here are absolutely primal. We're talking pre-\u201eEndless Pain\u201d material \u2013 raw, untamed, and dripping with that teenage aggression that would soon define an entire genre. The Tormentor side (the band that would eventually evolve into Kreator under a different name) is equally fascinating, offering a glimpse into the sound that was brewing in the Ruhr Valley underground. The production is lo-fi in the best possible way \u2013 you can practically smell the sweat and cheap beer. The included bonus DVD, Heavy Metal Battle 1986, is the cherry on top, featuring live footage that's nothing short of a treasure for any die-hard thrasher. Patrick W. Engel's audio restoration at TEMPLE OF DISHARMONY has done a stellar job of making these ancient tapes sound as good as humanly possible without losing their gritty character.
