Background information about 'Among The Living'
When Anthrax unleashed "Among The Living" in 1987, they didn't just deliver another thrash metal album - they crafted a masterpiece that would define the genre for generations. This is the album where the New York quintet truly found their voice, blending crushing riffs with razor-sharp social commentary and literary references that set them apart from their peers. From the opening assault of the title track to the epic closer "Imitation Of Life", every song here is a testament to the band's evolution from promising upstarts to thrash metal titans.
The album's crown jewel, "Caught In A Mosh", became an instant anthem that still ignites pits worldwide, while "I Am The Law" showcases their love for comic book culture with its Judge Dredd inspiration. Scott Ian's percussive guitar work and Joey Belladonna's soaring vocals create a perfect storm of aggression and melody, backed by the thunderous rhythm section of Frank Bello and Charlie Benante. The production captures the raw energy of their live performances while maintaining the clarity needed for the intricate arrangements to shine through.
