"Necrolution" is a retrospective, nostalgic album that turns back time to the late 80s and early 90s era of death metal. It recaptures the essence and style of death metal from its original formula, recreating the aesthetic feeling of something from the original style and sound to represent these modern times. The album purposefully aims to sound dated, representing an era of early death metal music without mimicking the band's own original style. Instead, it reflects the styles of many early era bands that influenced generations in death metal music.

With commentary by Kam Lee, the album explores the evolution of Massacre's sound by devolving it. Unlike many bands in death metal that attempt to modernize their style and sound, "Necrolution" goes back to the origin. The concept was to create something reminiscent of the past, going back 40 years into history to emulate a style predominantly influenced by thrash and heavy metal bands. Lyrically entrenched in horror, it draws influence from H.P. Lovecraft stories and celebrates a time when horror movies were heavily inspired by such works.
