Background information about 'Mucous Secretion'
There are bands that whisper their way into the underground, and then there is Pungent Stench — a band that kicked the door in, lit a match and grinned while the whole room went up. "Mucous Secretion" is the kind of record that reminds you why death metal once felt genuinely dangerous: filthy, greasy, gleefully wrong, and yet played with a tightness that borders on the surgical. The riffs don't just land, they ooze — thick, downtuned, and dripping with that unmistakable Austrian nastiness the trio made their trademark.
What makes this one such a joy is the balance between blunt force and sick humour. The grooves swing where lesser bands would simply bludgeon, the tempo shifts arrive like a boot to the ribs, and the vocals sit somewhere between a growl and a sneer. It's the sound of a basement, a case of cheap beer and absolutely no interest in being tasteful — and that's precisely the point. Every riff feels like it was written with a grin and a raised middle finger, which is exactly the energy that made this band such a cult proposition.
