Background information about 'Deathcrush (Re-Release)'
Originally released in 1987, "Deathcrush" stands as one of the most pivotal releases in extreme metal history. This isn't just an EP—it's the birth certificate of Norwegian black metal, the first studio recording from Mayhem that would later become the most notorious name in the genre. Before the church burnings, before the murders, before black metal became a household term of terror, there was this raw, unhinged document of pure sonic violence. Featuring the legendary lineup of Euronymous, Necrobutcher, Maniac, and Messiah, "Deathcrush" captures the band at their most primal and chaotic.
The production is deliberately lo-fi, giving these seven tracks an almost ritualistic quality that feels like it was recorded in some unholy catacomb. From the ominous opening of "Silvester Anfang" to the apocalyptic fury of "Pure Fucking Armageddon," every moment drips with the kind of malevolent energy that would define an entire movement. This reissue maintains all the raw power of the original while ensuring that new generations can experience this foundational piece of extreme metal history.
