Background information about 'Henhouse Recordings'
Raw, unfiltered chaos from the depths of Norwegian black metal history – "Henhouse Recordings" captures Mayhem at their most primitive and devastating. This legendary 1989 rehearsal session documents the band during their most turbulent period, featuring the iconic lineup with Dead on vocals and Euronymous wielding his razor-sharp guitar work. These recordings showcase the band's transition from their early death metal roots into the atmospheric darkness that would define black metal forever.
The production is deliberately lo-fi and claustrophobic, creating an atmosphere of genuine menace that studio albums often struggle to achieve. Every track crackles with the intensity of a band possessed, from the grinding brutality of their early compositions to the haunting interludes that would become their trademark. This isn't just a historical document – it's a portal into the birth of a movement that changed extreme metal forever.
