Background information about 'Wolf's Lair Abyss'
Mayhem unleash pure Norwegian black metal fury with this essential re-issue of "Wolf's Lair Abyss"! Originally released in 1997, this mini-album captures the band at their most ferocious and uncompromising. The opening track "The Vortex Void of Inhumanity" immediately sets the tone with its relentless blast beats and razor-sharp riffs, while "I Am Thy Labyrinth" showcases the band's ability to weave darkness into memorable compositions. Each track drips with the malevolent atmosphere that made Mayhem legends in the extreme metal underground.
This carefully constructed re-issue via Soulseller Records is a treasure trove for collectors and fans alike. The inclusion of Maniac's original handwritten lyrics adds an authentic touch to this piece of black metal history, while the bonus "Ancient Skin/Necrolust" EP tracks provide additional insight into the band's creative process during this pivotal period. The production maintains that raw, unpolished edge that gives these songs their devastating impact, proving once again why Mayhem remains the undisputed kings of Norwegian black metal.
