MESHUGGAH · Nothing | RED OPAQUE/BLACK MARBLED 2LP

Red opaque/black marbled double vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

Background information about 'Nothing'

Meshuggah's "Nothing" stands as one of the most crushing and mathematically precise albums in extreme metal history. Originally released in 2002, this masterpiece showcased the Swedish collective at their most uncompromising, delivering eight-string guitar brutality with polyrhythmic complexity that defied conventional songwriting. Tracks like "Rational Gaze" and "Stengah" became instant classics, featuring the band's signature downtuned heaviness paired with Jens Kidman's distinctive vocal delivery and Tomas Haake's mind-bending drumwork.

The album represents a pivotal moment in Meshuggah's evolution, bridging their earlier chaotic approach with the refined mathematical precision that would define their later works. "Closed Eye Visuals" and "Straws Pulled At Random" demonstrate the band's ability to create hypnotic, trance-like states through repetitive yet intricate patterns, while "Obsidian" closes the album with nearly ten minutes of pure sonic devastation. The production captures every nuance of their eight-string guitars and Fredrik Thordendal's innovative use of extended techniques, creating an atmosphere that's both claustrophobic and expansive.
