Background information about 'Total Mastery'
Total Mastery arrives like a boot to the throat, and Messticator clearly would not have it any other way. The Hamburg crew's sophomore record picks up the thread from 2022's Forthcoming Revelation and yanks it hard — everything here is faster, meaner, and more locked-in than before. The band still walks that razor's edge between death and thrash, but the balance feels sharper now, the riffs landing with a precision that only comes from time spent in the trenches together.
What really sells it is the songwriting. These aren't just bludgeoning exercises; they're hooks disguised as blunt-force trauma. Tracks like "The Pit Awaits..." and "...The Pitslayer" open the record with a one-two gut punch, while "Bloodsport" and "Mass Human Extinction" show off a knack for choruses that stick around long after the needle lifts. The lyrics lean into sinister territory — a ruling, judging, punishing entity looming over everything — and that dread gives the whole thing a deliciously nasty undercurrent. It is unapologetic, riff-obsessed, and played with the kind of hunger you can't fake.
