Background information about 'Total Mastery'
Messticator do not do subtle. The Hamburg crew came out swinging with "Forthcoming Revelation" back in 2022, and now they return with "Total Mastery", a sophomore record that takes everything that worked the first time and turns the dial past the point of reason. The premise alone is deliciously grim: what if there really were an entity greater than all of us, one that rules, judges and punishes? That is the title concept, and it threads through lyrics full of sinister tales, blood-soaked imagery and a worldview that refuses to look away.
Musically the band still live on that razor-thin line between death and thrash metal, and they walk it with the confidence of people who have done their time in sweaty basements. Everything here is faster, harder and even less willing to compromise than before. The riffs are built for the pit, the drumming is relentless, and the hooks are the kind that lodge themselves in your skull after a single spin. What impresses most is the growth: "Total Mastery" sounds like a band that learned spectacularly fast, sharpening their songwriting without sanding off any of the nastiness. Eleven tracks, no filler, no mercy.
