Background information about 'Steel, Rust and Disgust'

Midnight have never been a band interested in subtlety, and "Steel, Rust and Disgust" is exactly the kind of glorious, grease-stained middle finger you would hope for. Athenar and his revolving crew deal in a filthy hybrid of first-wave black metal, speed metal and raw punk, and this record wears every one of those scars proudly. The riffs are built from rusted chrome, the drums sound like they were tracked in a leaking garage, and the vocals sit somewhere between a snarl and a sneer. It is ugly in the best possible way, and it never once apologizes for it.

What makes it work is the songwriting underneath all that grime. There are hooks buried in the chaos, choruses that stick after one pass, and a sense of swing that keeps the whole thing from collapsing into noise. It is the sound of a band that knows exactly what it is doing, even when it sounds like everything is falling apart. Play it loud, play it twice, and let the neighbors wonder what happened to your taste in music.

For fans of: Venom, Motorhead, Bathory, Toxic Holocaust, Speedwolf
