Background information about 'From Transilvanian Forest'
Here is a document that matters: the only demo by Wiccan Rede, the legendary precursor of Negura Bunget, finally unearthed and given the treatment it deserves. "From Transilvanian Forest" captures these 1995 recordings exactly as they were — raw, hungry, and utterly unpolished — and that is precisely the point. You can hear a band feeling its way toward something enormous, and knowing it.
What strikes you first is the atmosphere. Cold, forest-thick, and strangely ceremonial, these tracks already carry the DNA that would later make Negura Bunget one of the most distinctive voices in Black Metal. The tremolo passages are rough-hewn, the keyboards drift in like fog between the trees, and the whole thing breathes with the earnestness of musicians who had no idea they were laying a foundation. Two bonus tracks sweeten the deal, and they are not filler — they sharpen the picture of where this journey began.
For anyone who has worn out the later albums, this is the missing first chapter, and hearing it feels like finding an old photograph of a friend before you knew them. The digipak presentation suits the material perfectly: modest, tactile, respectful. No grand gestures needed when the music speaks this plainly. A genuine piece of Black Metal archaeology, and an absolute must for the devoted.
