Background information about 'Dema'
Prepare yourself for a journey into the primordial darkness of Czech black metal with Root's monumental "Dema" compilation! This isn't just another collection – it's pure black metal archaeology, unearthing the legendary first four demos that helped shape the genre's foundation. When the iron curtain still cast its shadow over Eastern Europe, Root dared to channel the forbidden energies of extreme metal, creating something genuinely revolutionary.
These restored demos showcase Root's evolution from their raw, primitive beginnings to the unmistakable sound that would define their legacy. From the thrashy brutality and Czech incantations of their earliest material to the haunting acoustic interludes and eerie spoken passages that became their trademark, "Dema" captures lightning in a bottle. The fourth demo "The Trial" stands as the crown jewel, representing the moment when Big Boss's commanding vocals finally locked into place, completing Root's sonic identity. This is essential listening for anyone seeking to understand black metal's true origins.
