Background information about 'The Stage Collection'

Rick Wakeman has always been a force of nature on the keys, and "The Stage Collection" captures exactly why this man remains a living legend of progressive rock. This double vinyl set pulls together some of the most iconic pieces from his vast repertoire, delivered with the unmistakable theatrical flair that only Wakeman can bring to a live stage. From the sweeping grandeur of "Lure Of The Wild" to the haunting elegance of "Catherine Howard," every track here feels like a journey through time and imagination.

The set shines brightest on the extended pieces. "The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table" unfolds over twelve mesmerizing minutes, while the two-part "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth" is pure progressive gold, clocking in at nearly forty minutes combined. Wakeman even throws in his celebrated interpretations of Beatles classics with "Eleanor Rigby" and a stunning take on the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black," proving his genius extends far beyond his own compositions. "Past And Present" rounds things out beautifully, a reflective closer that ties together decades of musical brilliance. This is essential listening for any fan of symphonic rock, keyboard wizardry, and the sheer joy of an artist at the height of his powers.
