Background information about 'Homicidal Ecstasy'

Sanguisugabogg are not here to be tasteful. The Ohio crew named themselves after a fake gore website, and "Homicidal Ecstasy" doubles down on every bit of that greasy, grinning nastiness. This is caveman death metal with a smirk: riffs that stomp like a boot in a puddle of something unidentifiable, guttural belches traded for genuinely hooky grooves, and a rhythm section that swings as hard as it bludgeons. Where a lot of modern brutal death metal disappears into a fog of triggered drums and copy-paste tremolo, Sanguisugabogg keep the low end warm and the songwriting stupidly catchy. You will hum these things. That is the trick, and it is a great one.

The record never pretends to be anything other than a good time at the expense of good taste. Tracks like the opener and the mid-album stompers lock into mid-tempo chugs that feel built for a sweaty basement, then snap into blasts just long enough to remind you these players can actually play. The production is thick and nasty without being muddy, letting every pinch harmonic and every wet, gurgling vocal land like a punchline. It is gross, it is funny, it is absurdly fun, and it never overstays its welcome. Death metal this gleefully dumb is very hard to do well; these guys make it look effortless.
