There is a particular kind of joy in a debut that simply refuses to be polite, and Sodomisery deliver exactly that on "The Great Demise". The Swedish outfit load up on the classic stuff — buzzsaw riffing, blastbeats that hit like a collapsing wall, and a low-end rumble that never quite lets you breathe — but they never let the nostalgia do the thinking for them. Every tremolo line is placed with intent, every tempo shift lands with a purpose, and the whole thing carries that grim, cold-blooded confidence of a band who already know exactly what they want to sound like.
What really sells it is the songwriting. Too many records in this corner of the world mistake volume for atmosphere, but here the melodies actually stick around after the last note fades. There is a melancholy woven through the aggression, a sense of doom that creeps in behind the fury rather than shouting over it. The production keeps everything sharp and legible without sanding off the edges, so the guitars bite, the drums crack, and the vocals sit right up front where they belong. It is heavy, it is bleak, and it is enormous fun in the way only genuinely well-crafted extreme music can be.
