Background information about 'A Dying Wish'

Six years of silence, and then Thulcandra return with a record that feels like a blizzard rolling in off a frozen lake. "A Dying Wish" is the fourth full-length from Steffen Kummerer's blackened death metal outfit, and it lands with the kind of confidence only a band that truly knows its lineage can muster. Recorded, mixed and mastered at Unisound Studio by the legendary Dan Swanö, the album carries that unmistakable Swedish chill — the one Dissection, Entombed, Sacramentum and Unanimated carved into the genre's DNA decades ago. And yes, the icy-blue artwork keeps the visual thread running from "Fallen Angel's Dominion" through "Ascension Lost".

The opener "Funeral Pyre" sets the tone perfectly: a calm, almost reverent intro that suddenly erupts into freezing riffs, grim growls and drums that hit like hail on sheet metal. From there, the quartet stretches a dark arc between hushed acoustic interludes and full-throttle blackened death metal. "In Bleak Misery" drifts in quietly before "A Shining Abyss" drags you straight down with rich blast beats and dense walls of sound. Stormy up-tempo cuts like "The Slivering Silver" and "Devouring Darkness" bristle with strong leads and driving riffs, while "Nocturnal Heresy" throws a curveball by weaving doom metal passages into the ice-cold storm. Detailed, versatile, technically razor-sharp — this is an homage to classic death metal that keeps the flame of Jon Nödtveidt's legacy burning bright.
