Background information about 'Under A Frozen Sun'
There is a very specific kind of cold that Thulcandra summon on "Under a Frozen Sun" — not the polite chill of a winter morning, but the bone-deep, wind-scoured frost of a landscape where nothing living has any business being. This is melodic black metal in the grand old Scandinavian tradition, and the Munich crew play it with such conviction that you would swear the fjords were just outside the studio window. Razor-wire tremolo riffing, blastbeats that hit like a collapsing glacier, and a guitar tone that glistens and cuts at the same time: every element is placed with intent, and the whole thing breathes.
What lifts the record above mere homage is the songwriting. Tracks like the title cut and "Aeon of Darkness" know exactly when to open up into sweeping, mournful melody, letting a lead line soar over the storm before dragging you back down into the maelstrom. The production keeps the rawness intact while giving the low end real weight, so the record hits hard in the chest as well as the ears. A cover of Unanimated's "Life Demise" lands as a genuine tribute rather than filler, and it fits the mood like a missing puzzle piece.
