Background information about 'Electrocution'
Unearthly Trance have never been a band that asks for permission. "Electrocution" is the sound of a power line coming down in a rainstorm — filthy, humming, and dangerous to approach. The New York trio built their reputation on sludge that moves like tar and doom that breathes like a dying furnace, and this record distills that instinct into eight cuts of grim, deliberate punishment. Ryan Lipynsky's guitar tone is a rusted blade dragged across concrete, while the rhythm section locks into a hypnotic, almost ritualistic crawl that rewards patience and punishes impatience in equal measure.
What makes "Electrocution" so gripping is its sense of restraint. Nothing here is rushed. "God Is A Beast" unfolds over seven minutes of creeping dread, and "Diseased" grinds forward with the slow certainty of a burial. Then there is "Distant Roads Overgrown", a near-thirteen-minute closer that lets the band stretch out into feedback, drone, and pure atmospheric rot — the kind of track that makes you check whether the room got darker while you were listening. It is ugly, it is heavy, and it is absolutely magnetic.
