Lowest Form is the sound of a band deciding that subtlety was never part of the deal. 200 Stab Wounds come out of Cleveland swinging, and this record lands like a boot to the teeth from the very first riff. The guitars are thick and greasy, the rhythm section swings with a nasty groove that owes as much to classic death metal as it does to hardcore's short fuse, and the vocals sit somewhere between a growl and a bark, spat out with real venom. What makes it stick, though, is the songwriting. These aren't just riffs stacked on top of each other — there's a sense of pacing here, a willingness to slow down into a lurching crawl before snapping back into a full-throttle sprint.

It's a record that understands the value of a good hook buried under all that filth. Tracks twist and turn, guitars dive-bomb and squeal, and the whole thing has a live-wire energy that makes you want to see it played in a sweaty basement at maximum volume. 200 Stab Wounds aren't reinventing the wheel here, and they clearly don't care — they're too busy sharpening it. This is death metal with dirt under its fingernails and a grin on its face, the kind of album that rewards repeated listens because there's always another detail lurking in the murk. If you like your metal ugly, immediate, and played with genuine conviction, this one delivers in spades.
