200 Stab Wounds have never been a band that eases you in gently, and "Lowest Form" makes that brutally clear from the first downstroke. The Cleveland crew built their name on a sound that sits right at the crossroads of old-school death metal and hardcore's blunt-force urgency, and here they sharpen that formula until it cuts. The riffs come in thick, greasy and low-slung, the kind that make you screw up your face before you even realize you're doing it. Meanwhile the rhythm section locks in with a swing that's almost disrespectful, dragging grooves out of places most bands wouldn't dare to look.

What makes this record land so hard is the restraint. Nothing here is padded. Songs arrive, do their damage and get out, and the whole thing plays like a setlist written by people who actually go to shows.
