Background information about 'Succumb'
Spanish extreme metal outfit Altarage delivers another crushing blow to the senses with "Succumb", their fourth full-length that sees the band diving even deeper into their signature brand of suffocating death metal. This isn't just another brutal album - it's a carefully crafted descent into sonic chaos that maintains the band's mysterious aesthetic while pushing their sound into even more unforgiving territories. The 12-track journey spans over an hour of relentless brutality, with the epic closing track "Devorador De Mundos" clocking in at over 21 minutes of pure atmospheric devastation.
What makes "Succumb" particularly compelling is how Altarage manages to balance their crushing heaviness with moments of eerie atmosphere and technical prowess. Tracks like "Foregone" and "Drainage Mechanism" showcase the band's ability to create walls of sound that feel both claustrophobic and expansive, while shorter pieces like "Fair Warning" serve as brief respites before the next assault. The production maintains that signature murky quality that makes everything feel like it's emerging from some underground cavern, yet every instrument cuts through with surgical precision.
