Background information about 'The Approaching Roar'
There's a certain kind of terror that only truly dissonant death metal can conjure, and Altarage understand that language fluently. The Approaching Roar, their third full-length, is exactly what the underground hype promised — a relentless, suffocating slab of blackened death metal that doesn't let up for a single second. From the moment the first track hits, you're thrown into a vortex of chaotic riffs, pummeling drums, and vocals that sound like they're crawling up from some abyssal trench.
What makes this record stand out is how it balances outright brutality with an almost suffocating atmosphere. The production is raw enough to keep that filthy underground edge, but clear enough that every twisted riff lands with surgical precision. The band describes the album as calling \u201cthe doom inhabitants to reach a whole nothing\u201d — and honestly, that's exactly what it feels like. A descent into sonic darkness where structure and chaos fight for dominance. This isn't background music. This is music that demands your full attention, preferably with the lights off.
