Background information about 'Invoking The Majestic Throne Of Satan'

Inquisition has always existed in their own dark corner of the black metal underground, and “Invoking The Majestic Throne Of Satan” is the record that first showed the world exactly what Dagon and Incubus were capable of. Recorded back in 2002 and now given a proper reissue treatment, this debut album is a masterclass in atmosphere over speed, of creeping dread over blind aggression. The riffs move like something ancient stirring beneath the earth, patient and inevitable, while that unmistakable croaking vocal delivery sounds like it's being summoned from a crypt rather than sung from a stage.

What hits you first is just how fully formed the Inquisition sound already was. The tremolo-picked melodies weave hypnotic patterns that burrow into your skull, and the drumming locks into a relentless, ritualistic pulse that never lets go. Tracks like “Kill With Hate” and “Rituals Of Human Sacrifice For Lord Baal” are pure, unholy energy, but it's the slower, more ceremonial moments that truly define this album. There's a genuine sense of devotion here, a feeling that this isn't theater but something far more sincere. For a debut, the confidence is staggering.

This is black metal stripped of the usual clichés — no keyboards, no gimmicks, just two musicians conjuring something vast and malevolent from the simplest of tools. It's raw, it's hypnotic, and it remains one of the most singular statements the genre has ever produced. A genuinely essential document for anyone who takes this music seriously.
