BAL-SAGOTH · A Black Moon Broods over Lemuria | CD

Jewel-case CD with 32-page booklet.

Background information about 'A Black Moon Broods over Lemuria'

It's 1995 all over again, and the air is thick with arcane mysticism. Bal-Sagoth's debut, A Black Moon Broods over Lemuria, didn't just arrive — it erupted from the shadows of the British underground like some forgotten eldritch horror clawing its way back into the world. Three decades later, this remastered edition breathes new, sinister life into a record that essentially wrote the rulebook for symphonic sword-and-sorcery black metal.

From the moment "Hatheg-Kla" kicks in with its theatrical narration and cascading blastbeats, you know you're in for something utterly unhinged in the best way possible. Byron Roberts' distinctive baritone growls and soaring spoken-word passages weave tales of Atlantean spires, serpent kings and black pyramids with a conviction that borders on obsessive. The production — now expertly handled by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony — retains that raw, cavernous atmosphere while giving the guitars and orchestral flourishes room to breathe. Tracks like "Spellcraft & Moonfire" and the title track showcase a band that was already operating on a completely different plane from their peers.

What makes this reissue essential isn't just the pristine remaster. The 32-page booklet is packed with never-before-seen photos and an in-depth interview with Roberts conducted by Olivier "Zoltar" Badin. It's a treasure trove for anyone who's ever wondered about the mythology behind one of metal's most unique acts. This is Bal-Sagoth at their most raw, most ambitious, and most unapologetically over-the-top — and we wouldn't have it any other way.
