Background information about 'What We Leave Behind'
Finland's melodic death metal titans Brymir are back, and they've never sounded more devastating. With What We Leave Behind, the quintet delivers their fifth studio album, and it's a beast of a different colour. Following up 2022's acclaimed Voices in the Sky, this new record plunges headfirst into darker, more cinematic territories. Vocalist Viktor Storm Gullichsen, who also works as a film sound designer, brings a palpable sense of visual storytelling to the table. The result is an album that feels like a soundtrack to the end of days — massive, orchestral, and deeply atmospheric.
The Finns have always had a knack for blending blistering riffs with symphonic grandeur, but here they refine that formula to perfection. From the very first track, What We Leave Behind grabs you by the throat with its relentless energy, yet there's a melancholic undercurrent that runs through every song. It's honest, raw, and unapologetically epic. The production is huge, allowing every layer — from the double bass drum assault to the lush string arrangements — to breathe. This is Brymir at their most focused and most ferocious, channeling the chaos of the world into a work of art that asks the hard questions without offering easy answers. A true statement from a band operating at their peak.
